This is a door-to-door service. Your driver meets you at your hotel, rental or house in Playa Ocotal, your group travels on its own in a vehicle reserved for you, and we drop you at the entrance of your hotel in La Fortuna.

From Playa Ocotal to La Fortuna: the logistics
Playa Ocotal is a small, sheltered cove of dark sand framed by rocky headlands, a few minutes south of Playas del Coco. It is much quieter than its neighbour, with clear water for snorkelling around the rocks and easy access to the dive sites of the Gulf of Papagayo.
We collect you at your resort or villa in Ocotal. Many properties are on steep hillside roads; give us the name of the building or send the location pin, and the driver goes to your entrance.
La Fortuna is a small town, and your hotel may be in the centre or several kilometres out on the road to the volcano. Either way, we go to the door. Arriving before dark leaves time to settle in and plan the hanging bridges, the waterfall or a volcano hike for the next day.
We confirm the pickup time with you when you book. With approximately 3 h 15 min of driving, a pickup after breakfast in Playa Ocotal gets you to La Fortuna for lunch or the early afternoon.

From Ocotal the van takes the coastal road north to Coco, then the main road inland past Sardinal to Route 21 and Liberia.
Leaving the Papagayo coast, the van climbs inland on local roads to Route 21 and heads east to Liberia, then south on the Inter-American Highway (Route 1) across the Guanacaste plains to Cañas.

Before you travel
Road conditions and 2026 roadworks
If Route 142 is closed on your travel day, we take the inland alternative via Guatuso, the Tenorio Volcano area and Bijagua, joining Route 1; it takes longer and we tell you before setting off. Once on the Inter-American Highway the driving is straightforward, and in the dry season, roughly December to April, Guanacaste is hot, dusty and sunny.
And if a road closure or extreme weather makes the transfer impossible, our terms let you choose: a new date or your money back in full.

- If your villa has a steep or narrow driveway, meet the driver at the gate to save time.
- Rinse and dry dive or snorkel gear the night before so it travels lighter.
- Bring a sweater for the evening in La Fortuna, which is cooler and wetter than the coast.
- If you get carsick, take the front seat or the first row and look ahead on the curves.
