Getting to Chateau Arenal from SJO and Liberia
From SJO airport (San José)
From SJO the driver follows Route 1 west and crosses the mountains on Route 702 or Route 141 to the La Fortuna area, then continues toward El Castillo. Our fare table gives approx. 3 h to Chateau Arenal. A VIP transfer uses the Vara Blanca road instead, with stops at La Paz waterfall and the Cinchona lookout.
From Liberia airport (LIR)
From Liberia the road goes around Lake Arenal on the north shore and joins Route 142 on the volcano's western side, where the El Castillo turn-off is, before La Fortuna town. Our fare table gives approx. 2 h 45 min. On a VIP transfer the recommended stops are the lake viewpoints and Café y Macadamia.
