Rancho Margot's own directions take you through El Castillo and El Fósforo, with the final 2.5 km on a gravel road. It describes itself as a sustainable eco-lodge. It is one of the farthest of the Arenal lodges we list, beyond the El Castillo hotels, which is why its fare is La Fortuna +$40 per vehicle, twice the surcharge of El Castillo.

From the airports
Getting to Rancho Margot from SJO and Liberia
From SJO airport (San José)
From SJO the route crosses the Central Valley on Route 1 and the mountains on Route 702 or Route 141 to the La Fortuna area, approx. 3 h of driving to La Fortuna in our fare table. From there it continues west on Route 142, turns toward El Castillo and carries on past El Fósforo to the lodge, with the gravel section at the end.
From Liberia airport (LIR)
From Liberia the lake road leads to Route 142 on the western side of the volcano, where the turn-off toward El Castillo comes before La Fortuna town. Our fare table gives approx. 2 h 45 min to La Fortuna; the trip to Rancho Margot then depends on the last stretch past El Castillo, which we plan with you when you book.
