The JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa is a large beachfront resort inside Hacienda Pinilla, on the coast south of Tamarindo. Its buildings face the Pacific across a wide lawn and a long infinity pool, with the resort's restaurants, spa and access to the golf course of the surrounding community.
Arrival and departure happen at the main lobby, where the bell staff take care of the luggage. Because the resort is inside a gated community, the driver checks in at the Hacienda Pinilla gate and then continues along the internal roads to the hotel entrance.
We confirm the pickup time with you when you book. With approximately 4 h of driving ahead, most travellers leave La Fortuna in the morning so they arrive in daylight.

From Huacas, local roads lead south and west to Tamarindo, Playa Grande and the beaches beyond. The coast here is a chain of separate bays, so the last few kilometres depend on exactly where you are staying.
After Villarreal the route heads south to the Hacienda Pinilla gate. The driver checks in with security and follows the internal road through the community to the JW Marriott's main entrance.

Before you travel
Road conditions and 2026 roadworks
Our fallback is the inland road via Guatuso, the Tenorio Volcano area and Bijagua to Route 1, longer but reliable; if we need it, you hear from us before departure. On the Inter-American Highway itself driving is simple. Expect strong sun and dry, dusty landscapes from about December to April and greener, wetter months after that.
The access roads are paved, partly rural; inside Hacienda Pinilla the roads are private and slow. In the dry season the coast is hot, sunny and windy in the afternoons.
If we cannot run the transfer because of a road closure or extreme weather, you choose between a new date and a full refund.

Driver's tips for this route
- If you arrive on a Saturday, expect more traffic in Tamarindo town; the driver knows the side roads.
- Check-in at large resorts usually opens in the afternoon; a morning departure from La Fortuna fits well.
- Give us the name on the reservation: the Hacienda Pinilla gate may ask for it.
- If you get carsick, take the front seat or the first row and look ahead on the curves.

Do you take the lake road or the inland road?
Normally the lake road, Route 142 via Nuevo Arenal and Tilarán. If it is closed by a landslide, we use the inland alternative via Guatuso, the Tenorio Volcano area and Bijagua to Route 1, which takes longer.
Is the JW Marriott inside Hacienda Pinilla?
Yes. The resort is inside the gated community of Hacienda Pinilla. We go through the security gate to the main lobby.
Is the fare the same as to Tamarindo?
