The service
Your private transfer from La Fortuna to Brasilito Beach
Leaving Arenal for Brasilito Beach is easier when someone else handles the road. Your driver picks you up at your hotel at the time that suits you, loads the luggage and drives your group, and only your group, straight to your accommodation in Brasilito Beach.
What you see is what you pay, per vehicle: fuel, tolls, taxes, insurance, water, WiFi and child seats are all in the price. Standard is the direct trip; VIP adds $80 per vehicle and turns the drive into a day with stops.
Your destination
Arriving in Brasilito Beach
Brasilito is a small, down-to-earth village on the north Guanacaste coast, with a football pitch, sodas and a beach where fishing boats still land. It sits right next to Playa Conchal: you can walk south along the sand to Conchal's famous shell beach, which makes Brasilito a practical and more affordable base for it.
Places to stay are mostly small hotels, cabins and rentals, such as Hotel Conchal Garden. Flamingo and Potrero are a few minutes north, and the restaurants of Huacas and the shops along the coast road are close by.
We confirm the pickup time with you when you book. With approximately 4 h 30 min of driving ahead, most travellers leave La Fortuna in the morning so they arrive in daylight.

The route
What to expect on the drive
- Distance
- about 190 km between the town centres (our measurement, approx.)
- Driving time
- approx. 4 h 30 min without stops (our fare table)
- Main roads
- Route 142 around Lake Arenal, Route 1 north to Liberia, Route 21 west, then the coast roads around Huacas
- Last stretch
- From Huacas, the coast road down to Brasilito
After the lake road and the Inter-American Highway to Liberia, the route leaves Liberia westwards on Route 21 across Guanacaste cattle country and then takes local roads towards the coast around Huacas, the junction town for the beaches north of Tamarindo.
From the Huacas area a short road drops to the coast at Brasilito, with the entrance to Reserva Conchal on one side and the village on the beach just ahead.
Along the way
What you'll see between La Fortuna and Brasilito

The north shore of the lake and the turbines on the ridges near Tilarán.
The Liberia ring of highways
The city of Liberia is where the plains route meets the road to the coast; the airport is just to the west.
The Brasilito pitch
The village football field sits right by the beach, a good snapshot of everyday life on the coast.
The walk to Conchal
From Brasilito beach you can see the start of Playa Conchal, a short walk south along the sand.
Tropical Experts VIP
VIP stops on this route
Our VIP upgrade (+$80 per vehicle) turns the transfer into a short tour: one to two hours of stops chosen with you, a bilingual driver-guide, a welcome kit and sparkling water on board. It is available on any route in the country. Ideas for this one:
Lake Arenal views
Short stops along the north shore of the lake when the clouds lift and the volcano shows across the water.
The lake lookout (mirador)
Time to stretch your legs and take photos from a lookout high above the water.
Wildlife stops
When coatis, monkeys or birds appear by the lake road, we pull over so you can see them.
Need more than two hours? Add up to 4 extra hours at $35 each when you book. On Standard the driver goes straight there and stops for the restroom whenever you ask.

Before you travel
Road conditions and 2026 roadworks
Route 142 around Lake Arenal is paved but narrow and curvy, with little shoulder, few guard rails and almost no street lighting, according to independent driving guides from 2025 and 2026. Strong wind is common around Tilarán. The lakeside section between La Fortuna and Nuevo Arenal has been closed by landslides after heavy rain, in July 2024 and again in July 2026.
The roads to Brasilito are paved; some streets in the village are gravel. In the dry season, December to April, it is hot and sunny, and the afternoon wind can be strong.
Our terms cover the rare day when a closure or extreme weather stops the transfer: you can move it to another date or receive a full refund.
From the road
Driver's tips for this route
- In the dry season, from about December to April, keep water handy: the coast is hot and the air conditioning works hard.
- Walking to Playa Conchal from Brasilito is the classic way to visit it; go early or late to avoid the midday heat.
- Bring water shoes: Conchal's shells are beautiful but rough underfoot in places.
- Bringing surfboards, bikes or diving gear? Tell us when you book so we send a vehicle with room for it.
