Getting there
SJO or Liberia: which airport for Papagayo?
From Liberia (LIR, Guanacaste): about 30 min and $110 per vehicle. The route takes local paved roads west of the airport towards the coast of the Gulf of Papagayo.
From SJO (Juan Santamaría, San José): about 4 h 15 min and $340 per vehicle. The route follows Route 1 (the Inter-American Highway) north-west to Guanacaste and then towards the coast.
The difference on the road is 3 h 45 min and $230. Many travelers land at one airport and fly home from the other; we cover both legs.

About Papagayo Peninsula
The Papagayo Peninsula wraps around Culebra Bay on the Gulf of Papagayo, close to Liberia airport. It is home to some of the most exclusive resorts in the country, such as the Four Seasons and Andaz, on quiet beaches surrounded by dry tropical forest.
Along the shore of the bay you will also find resorts such as Secrets Papagayo, Planet Hollywood and El Mangroove, and we drive to all of them. The peninsula itself has a security gate: have your resort name and the name on the reservation ready in case the guards ask.

How long is the drive from Liberia airport to Papagayo?
About 30 min without stops. The route takes local paved roads west of the airport towards the coast of the Gulf of Papagayo. Rain, traffic and stops add time.
Does the driver take us inside the resort?
Yes. The driver goes through the peninsula gate and drops you at your resort lobby. Have the reservation name ready in case security asks.
