Arriving in Playa Conchal
Playa Conchal takes its name from the tiny crushed shells that make up much of its sand, which give the water a clear, turquoise colour on calm days. It is one of the most photographed beaches in Guanacaste, with snorkelling around the rocks at the northern end.
Behind the beach lies Reserva Conchal, a gated resort community with a golf course, residences and two large hotels, The Westin Reserva Conchal and W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal. The public can also reach the beach on foot from neighbouring Brasilito. Tell us which hotel or residence you are staying at; the driver goes through the security gate to your lobby.
The final part runs from the Huacas area towards Brasilito, where the entrance to Reserva Conchal is. After the security gate, the internal roads cross the golf course to the hotels and residences near the beach.

From the airport the van takes Route 21 south-west across Guanacaste cattle country towards the Nicoya side of the province. Dry forest, ranches and small towns pass the window until the junction area around Huacas, the gateway to the beaches north of Tamarindo.

Before you travel
Road conditions on the way to Playa Conchal
Route 21 and the local roads to the coast are paved and in good condition. Between the highway and the beach towns, some roads are narrow or have potholes after heavy rain, and your driver adjusts the speed. Traffic near Tamarindo can slow down in the afternoon, when the town fills up.
The roads to Reserva Conchal are paved and the internal roads are private and well kept. In the dry season, from December to April, Conchal is hot and very sunny; the afternoon wind keeps the beach pleasant.
