Monteverde is the cloud-forest region around the village of Santa Elena, high in the Cordillera de Tilarán. Its reserves, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and the Santa Elena reserve among them, protect misty forest full of mosses, orchids and birds, including the resplendent quetzal. Hanging bridges, canopy lines, night walks and coffee and chocolate tours fill the days.

Monteverde sits high in the Tilarán mountains, so the trip has two parts. First the van follows Route 1, the Inter-American Highway, west out of the Central Valley and down towards the Pacific lowlands; your driver picks the approach to the mountain on the day, depending on traffic and the state of the roads.

The mountain section between the highway and Monteverde is the rough part of the trip: narrow, steep in places and partly unpaved or potholed, depending on recent maintenance. All our vehicles drive it regularly, and your driver knows where to slow down.

Nothing extra to pay. We track the flight number you give us and adjust the pickup, and we run transfers 24/7. If the airline cancels the flight, we move your transfer to the new date at no charge.
