The service

Your private transfer from Liberia Airport (LIR) to Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste)

Landing after a long flight is not the moment to piece a trip together. With us the van is reserved for your party only, the driver follows your flight number, helps with the luggage and drives you directly to Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste). No strangers, no detours to other people's hotels.

Prices are per vehicle, not per passenger, and nothing is added later: taxes, tolls, fuel, insurance, bottled water, WiFi and child seats come with every booking. Go Standard for the fastest trip or VIP (+$80) to stop along the way.

We confirm the pickup details with you when you book. With approximately 30 min of driving ahead, most travellers go straight to the hotel and still have time for the pool or a late lunch.

Your destination

Arriving in Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste)

This Playa Hermosa is the one in Guanacaste, on the Gulf of Papagayo between Playas del Coco and Playa Panamá, not the surf beach of the same name near Jacó. It is a wide, sheltered bay of grey sand with calm water for most of the year, good for swimming, kayaking and snorkelling, and famous for its sunsets over the gulf.

The village behind the beach is small and residential, with a few restaurants, condominiums and hotels such as Playa Hermosa Bosque del Mar. Coco, with its shops and dive centres, is a few minutes away, and Liberia airport is close, which makes Hermosa a comfortable last stop before flying home.

The bay faces west across the Gulf of Papagayo, with famous sunsets.

The route

What to expect on the drive

Driving time
approx. 30 min without stops (our fare table)
Main roads
Local paved roads west of the airport towards the Gulf of Papagayo coast
Pickup point

The last kilometres depend on the bay: some roads are wide and landscaped up to a resort gate, while the beach towns have narrower streets where your driver knows the way to your door. Resort entrances have a security check, so give us your reservation name and hotel when you book.

Along the way

What you'll see between Liberia Airport and Playa Hermosa

What passes the window on the way from the airport to Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste):

  • Dry forest and ranches

Brahman cattle and wide-crowned guanacaste trees, the national tree, which are leafless and golden in the dry season and bright green once the rains arrive.

  • The first view of the Gulf

The road drops towards the sea with views of the bays, islands and the Papagayo coastline.

  • The Gulf of Papagayo

From the road above Playa Hermosa you look out over the gulf, with the Papagayo Peninsula on the horizon.

  • Sardinal

The small town at the junction for the Papagayo beaches, with its church and football pitch on the main square.

Road conditions on the way to Playa Hermosa (Guanacaste)

In the dry season, from December to April, the area is hot and very sunny; in the green season, roughly May to November, afternoon showers are common but rarely last long. The coast catches the afternoon wind, which keeps the beaches pleasant.

The roads from Liberia to Playa Hermosa are paved and straightforward. From December to March the Papagayo winds blow strongly along this coast; they cool the beach but can make boat trips choppy.
