In the dry season, from December to April, the plains are very hot in the middle of the day; in the green season, roughly May to November, afternoon rain can make the gravel muddy. Allow extra time for activities on arrival day.
The Inter-American Highway north of Liberia is wide and fast, with truck traffic heading to and from the Nicaraguan border. Coastal roads around Bahía Salinas can be partly gravel. In the dry season the wind is very strong on this coast.
