This is a Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort with 201 rooms and suites, built in a Spanish Colonial style on four floors. It stands inside the larger Los Sueños community, which has its own marina of about 200 slips and the La Iguana golf course, an 18-hole, par-72 design by Ted Robinson. Meetings & Conventions lists the hotel as built in 1999 and renovated in 2010, a 2019 review mentions remodeled rooms, and Marriott now promotes newer Swim Up rooms that open onto an adults-only pool.
Two details matter once you have landed. The first is the setting: independent accounts describe the sand on the resort's own stretch of Herradura beach as dark and rocky, better for paddleboards than for lounging, with Jacó's beach a short drive away. The second is the entrance. A reviewer describes a guard gate at the start of the grounds, then winding internal roads to the main Marriott sign, with the lobby on the second floor.
For the transfer itself, Los Sueños is in its own fare zone with no surcharge, and the fare depends only on the vehicle size for your group. The only thing to settle on your side is the name on the reservation, because Marriott also lists a separate Vacation Club property at Los Sueños. Getting to Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort from SJO and Liberia
From SJO airport (San José)
Your driver waits outside the terminal with a sign bearing your name. From SJO the route goes west onto the San José–Caldera highway (Route 27), a toll road, and then follows Route 34, the coastal highway, to Herradura. Independent sources put the drive at roughly an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half; our fare table gives approx. 1 h 45 min. Tolls are already in the fare. Route 27 is the main road to the central Pacific, so Friday afternoons, Sunday returns and public holidays are the slow times, and a drainage collapse at Orotina (km 56) closed the road in mid-2026 before it reopened to all vehicles on 6 July with works continuing nearby.
From Liberia airport (LIR)
Landing in Liberia is the longer way to Herradura. The road runs south on Route 1 and then joins the Pacific coast highway toward Jacó, so expect a full day of travel rather than a quick hop. Our fare table gives approx. 3 h 30 min of driving, at $300 for up to five passengers, $345 for up to nine and $430 for up to twelve. It makes sense mainly when your flights are into Liberia anyway, or when you are combining Herradura with a stay in Guanacaste.
