Casa Chameleon is the second hotel of that name, after the original on the Nicoya Peninsula. It has 21 villas and suites on a hillside above the sea, and every one has a private terrace and a plunge pool. The Michelin Guide gives it two Keys, and Travel + Leisure listed it among its Central America honorees in 2026. The restaurant, Sentido Norte, is a cliffside room that serves breakfast, farm lunches and a seafood dinner, and there is a central infinity pool and a sunset bar.
Las Catalinas is a planned beach town built to keep cars out of the centre: streets are for walking and bicycles, with a tennis court, cafés and beach access close by, and Playa Danta can be reached on foot or by a short golf-cart ride, according to i-escape. The hotel is adult-oriented. The Michelin listing says guests under 16 are accepted only with a full-resort booking, so families should ask before they plan around it.
That car-free layout shapes your arrival. Your vehicle takes you to the hotel's arrival point, and from there the staff look after the bags. The town is also still being built, so some construction noise is possible, as the same review points out. Las Catalinas is its own fare zone in our table, so the price is fixed and the same for every hotel in the town.
From the airports

From SJO airport (San José)
From San José the town is a long day on the road, and our fare table gives approx. 4 h 45 min – 5 h 15 min. The route follows Route 1 to Liberia and then turns toward the coast and the Potrero area; we choose the exact approach on the day. Your driver waits outside customs with a sign bearing your name. From Liberia airport (LIR)
Liberia is the natural airport. i-escape speaks of about 42 km and an hour, and our fare table gives approx. 1 h 15 min – 1 h 45 min. Your driver meets you after immigration and baggage claim. The last stretch is a country road, and i-escape notes that some roads and bridges in the area change in the rainy season, so we plan extra margin in the rainy months.
