The destination

About Río Celeste (Tenorio Volcano)

Tenorio Volcano National Park protects one of the most photographed rivers in Costa Rica. At Los Teñideros, two clear streams join and the water turns a milky sky blue; upstream and downstream the trail passes the Río Celeste waterfall, blue pools and warm springs.

Lodging is in small farming villages near the park, in cabins and lodges surrounded by forest. If you can, spend the night and start the trail when the park opens, when it is quieter. Remember that swimming in the river is not allowed inside the park.

About 2 h 15 min without stops. The route runs south-east from Guanacaste to the Tenorio Volcano area; the last part runs on rural roads. Rain, traffic and stops add time.

Can we stop at Río Celeste on the way between Arenal and Guanacaste?

Can you drop us at the national park entrance?

Yes. Give us the address you prefer, the park area or your lodge. Park entrance fees are paid separately and are not part of the transfer.

Is the road to Río Celeste unpaved?

The main roads are paved. The last access roads are rural and may have gravel sections, depending on maintenance. All our vehicles drive gravel roads.

Per vehicle. Two or five passengers pay the same in the Hyundai Staria, so the more of you travel, the less each person pays.
