Getting there
SJO or Liberia: which airport for Jacó?
From SJO (Juan Santamaría, San José): about 1 h 45 min and $175 per vehicle. The route takes the Route 27 toll motorway west and then the Costanera Sur (Route 34) to Jacó.
From Liberia (LIR, Guanacaste): about 3 h 30 min and $300 per vehicle. The route runs south from Guanacaste towards the Central Pacific coast.
The difference on the road is 1 h 45 min and $125. Many travelers land at one airport and fly home from the other; we cover both legs.
The destination
About Jacó
Jacó is a busy surf town on the Central Pacific, with a long beach of gray sand, steady waves and plenty of surf schools. The main street running parallel to the beach is full of restaurants, bars, surf shops and tour offices.
Places to stay range from large resorts to small surf lodges and condominium towers by the sea. Jacó works well as a base for surf lessons, canopy tours, sportfishing from nearby Herradura and day trips to Carara National Park or Manuel Antonio.

FAQ
Private shuttle to Jacó: frequent questions
How much is a private shuttle to Jacó?
From SJO airport it is $175 for up to 5 passengers, $230 for 6 to 9 and $315 for 10 to 12. From Liberia airport it is $300 for up to 5 passengers, $345 for 6 to 9 and $430 for 10 to 12. The price is for the whole vehicle, not per person, and includes taxes and tolls. From other towns, see the table above.
How long is the drive from SJO airport to Jacó?
About 1 h 45 min without stops. The route takes the Route 27 toll motorway west and then the Costanera Sur (Route 34) to Jacó. Rain, traffic and stops add time.
Is Jacó a good first stop after landing at SJO?
Yes. It is one of the shortest drives from SJO to the beach, so even with an afternoon flight you usually reach your hotel the same day.
Can we see the scarlet macaws or the crocodiles on the way?
Yes. The Tárcoles River bridge and Carara National Park are both beside Route 34, a few minutes before Jacó. With VIP you have time for both; park entrance is paid on site.
Do you take surfboards?
Yes. Tell us how many boards and their length when you book, and we send a vehicle with room for them and your luggage.
Is the price per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. Two or five passengers pay the same in the Hyundai Staria, so the more of you travel, the less each person pays.
